Wedding Etiquette that Every Guest Should Respect
If you’re not familiar with wedding etiquette, just ask any Southern girl. They can tell you it’s all about the couple’s “Best Day Ever” and how you can help make their event memorable for years to come. Here are a few to remember:
RSVP
This tops the list for wedding etiquette. If you’ve ever planned a large party, shower, or wedding, you get this! What if you just don’t know if you can attend that far in advance? RSVP with a yes, if that is your intention and if that changes, let the host know asap.
Pay Attention to the Envelope before Opening Invite
Do not assume you have a plus one and by all means, Don’t Ask. In addition, don’t assume you will receive an invitation and open your mouth saying something like, “I can’t wait for the wedding” before actually receiving one.
Never Wear White
Surely everyone has heard of this HUGE golden rule. Every Southern girl knows that no matter how great she looks in a white/ivory dress, it’s just not worth wearing the same color as the bride on her Big Day.
Arrive on Time
Rule of thumb is to arrive at least twenty minutes before the ceremony is set to begin. Also, attend all events possible that you are invited to celebrate.
No Phone Zone
Texting, tagging, posting, videoing, and snapchatting are really off limits while the special couple are exchanging vows. After all, someone is likely paying for a professional photographer so why not let them do their job. During the reception, these rules change, especially if the couple has created their own hashtag. On that note, WeddingWire can help with that special # here → Wedding hashtag generator
Congrats Goes a Long Way
Thank both families and the couple for inviting you to share in their sweet celebration.
Join in the Fun!
Sign the guest book, use the hashtag, show respect for the schedule of events (no long-winded speeches), calling all single ladies: catch the bouquet, eat cake, and last, but not least, Just Dance
Stay until the End
Never leave early. While there are reasonable excuses, when possible, it’s best to stay until the bride and groom’s grand finale exit.
