Deciding whether to hire a professional DJ? This is a must-read ⬇️
Nashville has so many professionals to help you bring your wedding vision to life. If you are trying to manage a budget for your wedding, you may find yourself asking, do I really need to hire a professional DJ? Why yes, yes you really do! Do not be tempted to let a friend or relative bring in his mini speaker or rented sound equipment and play the latest playlist on Spotify. You would never ask a family member to take the photos or design your dress, so don’t settle for an amateur DJ. You really do get what you pay for. Here at L&L Farm, we like to keep you informed for every decision you have to make. We went to one of Nashvilles’s experts, Jason Middleton, owner of Premier Entertainment, to give you all the reasons, 9 to be exact, to hire a professional DJ.
Licensing
Licensing means we purchase all of our music, it’s legal and the sound is of high quality. We also purchase versions that are made to mix with other songs allowing us to mix on beat keeping the crowd energized throughout the night and keeping them on the dance floor which is what most brides want.
Dependability
Dependability…You are making arrangements for an important day. THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY! That friend of a friend or family member may be less interested or willing when the big day comes. They thought it would be handy to make a few extra bucks but can decide that they have a better offer by the time the dates rolls around. What if they get sick? Is there a back-up in line? Don’t be left high and dry! A wedding is a unique event that requires the skill and experience of a wedding specialist for a smooth, flawless ceremony and reception. Amateurs are less invested in their performance than a wedding professional.
Professional
Professionalism…Search online for wedding reception disasters and note how many of them are related to DJ’s behaving badly or messing up announcements etc. It may sound like fun to have a friend run the show, but it has potential to turn into a train wreck.
Reading a Crowd
Reading a Crowd…A professional DJ is use to watching a crowd and knowing the right moment to put on a slow song, group dance or sing-a-long. They know when to get things moving and when they should fade into the background of a special moment. It’s more than a list of songs that you love…but the RIGHT songs at the RIGHT times. Your guests won’t dance without an experienced entertainer who can read the crowd and keep the momentum going.
Master of Ceremonies
Master of Ceremonies (MC)…Your DJ is more than somebody to keep the music playing. They serve as host of the reception, the representative to those whom the bride and groom might only get a few moments to speak to. They have to do introductions (properly with all of the names correct), first dance, father/daughter, mother/son, dinner, blessing, toasts, bouquet/garter, last dance, etc., if needed all while keeping the music going. The DJ is part of the entertainment, energetically announcing fun dances and setting the mood for romantic ones. They are so much more than just somebody who will rent equipment, show up and play music. You don’t want to leave all of that responsibility to a friend or family member. The MC has a huge impact on the mood and outcome of your party, for better or worse.
Song Requests
Requests…maybe a friend or family member refuses to play “that new stuff” that the younger guests are begging for or doesn’t even know who Neil Diamond is. Spinning a mix of new and old, and having it available, to please EVERYBODY with appropriate timing is a skill that only a professional DJ who has entertained at many weddings will have. We will have extensive libraries of thousands of songs and the expertise to blend them together for an enjoyable evening for ALL.
State of the Art Equipment
Professional Equipment…Are you sure that the amateur’s RENTED equipment that is planned on being used is going to be able to be heard loud and clear? The speakers that seem more adequate in somebody’s house might be embarrassing inside a room full of people. It’s difficult to dance to whispering lyrics or those distorted by inadequate equipment. Microphones need to be wireless with great sound for toasts and announcements. WHAT IF SOMETHING BREAKS?? A professional DJ will be prepared with back-up systems for such a possibility. An amateur DJ has inadequate or non-existent backup equipment, which means that if something fails you have no music at your wedding. DJs who charge less invest less into their equipment, which means you have inferior sound and performance at your wedding.
Insurance
Insurance…If something happens to the DJ’s equipment…you don’t want to be responsible for replacing it. A professional will be covered. Period.
Relax and Enjoy your Day
Peace of Mind – You are marrying the love of your life and will have an amazing time! The last thing you are going to want to do is worry about whether or not the DJ is showing up or if he/she has the right music. After all, you are already going to be checking your hair, trying to maneuver in that dress, and keeping the peace between extended family members. Don’t give yourself one more thing to increase your anxiety. Hire a professional DJ and know that the evening’s entertainment is in good hands. You can relax and enjoy yourself.
And there you have it! Make sure you hire a DJ who gets it right – the right DJ can help create a super fun wedding reception that you’ve always dreamed of.
