Wedding Trends from 2018

Which wedding trends will compliment your style?

Wedding trends come and go… But outdoor weddings will never go out of style and having an indoor option, not only adds peace and comfort, but yet another opportunity to reflect your vision. The question is, how do I make the space I’ve chosen for my wedding, reflect my personality? While timeless and classic touches will always be in style, many options abound for you to add your own style. Here are just a few of our favorite 2018 wedding trends worth noting and could be around for awhile…

1 – All about that backdrop

Backdrops are a great way to add uniqueness to your engagement or wedding photos. Whether it’s an impressive architectural feature (L&L Farm has that covered with a historic vibe), archway, wall of greenery, beautifully aged barn, or rolling acres of natural greenery, backdrops remain at the top of the list for venue picks. How nice that you can leave it in its simple natural state or add your personal touch and creativity to make it your own.

2 – Deeper Color Palettes

Vibrant jewel tones such as Ultra-violet (or really any shade of purple) and rich dramatic hues mixed with foliage bring color and texture to your wedding theme. Darker colors, even black, will be making lots of appearances in the coming year and easily create a romantic mood. Not into rich colors?  Use a mixture of greens, such as ferns, decorative larger palm leaves, vines and air plants (personal fav) for a natural and flowy undone look. You can never go wrong with creams, greenery, and add  black accents for that extra edgy vibe. See photo below by Janelle Sutton for a beautiful example with black candles.

3 – Desserts galore

Wedding cakes are a tradition worth holding on to. They are beautiful works of art that add instant style to any old farm table. Also trending are hand painted confections. White cakes have become a canvas for personalization. Also, why not enhance the presentation by adding other desserts to compliment the cake. For instance, donuts go upscale if presented in a way that adds visual interest like tiers or glass enclosures, such as cloches. At the end of a long hot night of dancing,  popsicles or frozen treats would hit the spot!

4 – Textured linens

A well-defined laser cut overlay will add tons of interest to an otherwise plain table linen, even if in white or neutral colors. Think less décor all the while adding visual interest in an upscale touch.

5 – Smaller wedding parties

I’ve said it before…. And it’s worth repeating. Smaller groups with one or two attendants each,  put the emphasis on a more intimate gathering. Choose your besties. And remember, just because you were a bridesmaid for a friend, does not dictate that they have to be in your bridal party.

6 – Potted plants for aisle décor

Repurpose easily comes to mind for this trend. The pots can be covered in either delicate fabrics or rustic materials, like wooden boxes. You thought I was gonna say burlap didn’t you? Nope. Rustic is out, woodsy is in. At the end of the day, its your Big Day and whatever helps to display your theme or style is appropriate.

7 – Fun food setups & drink presentation

Food and drink are key ingredients to entertaining. Provide a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Consider your color theme as well as let your personality show through. Compliment your décor with a drink station to match. Creating a unique display will incorporate elements of your wedding style along with your personality. An absolute must mention is the dreamy drink stations and bars covered in greenery. Jose Villa has one of my favorite photos of a round bar in a gorgeous outdoor setting, decorated with greenery. You’ve probably seen it on Pinterest!  As a venue owner, I’m thinking I need a living wall for photo ops. Who wouldn’t love that? Did you know you can buy sections of faux boxwood greenery to create any kind of backdrop? Also acts as a noise diffuser. I do love a simple touch of greenery, although I always prefer the real thing!Beverage Station2 1024x752 - Wedding Trends from 2018

8 – Mixed metallic

Gold and silver have always been staples for weddings. With the rise of home décor in gold geometric pieces, it is easy to incorporate touches of gold to add some warmth to the reception space. In recent years, we saw a rise in copper and rose gold hues making an entrance to the wedding industry. Be open to mixing the metallic shades to add personality and texture. A glimmer of gold and hints of mixed metals can add elegance to an otherwise casual space.

9 – Ceiling Treatments

Ever heard of a ceiling described as a fourth wall? I absolutely love all the dangling treatments of flowers or vines like the one shown in the photo below by Janelle Sutton. A simple DIY is to buy a hula hoop, spray paint it, then drape it with your favorite greenery. This is simple and doesn’t involve the main chandeliers, which may be out of reach.
